Slovenian
president sets general elections for September
Wednesday, July 2, 2008
Slovenian President Danilo Tuerk has set general elections for September 21, 2008.
Tuerk told the press after signing the decree that the period ahead of
the elections is also "a mirror of the political culture of our society."
This is why he wants the election campaign to be based on arguments and
hopes that the election turnout will be as high as possible.
The election campaign ahead of the autumn general election will officially
be launched on August 22, a month before the election on Sunday. Candidates
have until August 27 to register for the vote.
This year's general elections will be the fifth since Slovenia's independence
in 1991. The last election at which the fourth seating of the 90-member
parliament was elected was held on Oct. 3,2004.
