Si.nergy
for Europe
In the first half of 2008, Slovenia holds the Presidency for the first
time, as the first of the twelve “new” member states that
joined the EU in the 2004 and 2007 enlargements to do so.
Si.nergy for Europe
is the name of the slogan for the Slovenian Presidency and the title of
its Presidency Programme.
The priorities
of the Slovenian Presidency were to a large extent determined in the 18-month
Programme of the German, Portuguese and Slovenian Presidencies and in
the Survey of the Inherited Agenda of the EU Council.
The five main priorities
of Slovenian Presidency are:
1. The future of the Union and timely entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty
2. Successful launching of the new Lisbon Strategy cycle
3. A step forward in addressing climate-energy issues
4. Strengthening of the European perspective of the Western Balkans
5. Promoting the dialogue between cultures, beliefs and traditions in
the context of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
